Finding your strengths can be difficult, which is why I sat down with Certified Strengths Finder Coach Lisa Cummings to talk about just that, finding your strengths and how to uncover them.
Here’s an outtake from the Finding Your Strengths Masterclass I did with Lisa for The Career Branding Summit.

Thoughts on Finding Your Strengths
Finding your strengths, knowing them, and being able to articulate them will serve you greatly as you move ahead in your career.
Getting clear on how and why you deliver your best value to an employer will make it easier for you to communicate to your employer or team how you best serve them and it’ll make it a whole lot easier to know what type of tasks NOT TO get involved in.
Surveys from Gallup show that:
- Focusing on your strengths makes you stronger and 6 times more engaged at work compared to those who don’t.
- People who focus on their strengths every day at work, reports 3 times the quality of life compared to those who don’t.
- When focusing on your natural talents you have an exponential opportunity to do better faster.
As you can tell, finding your strengths and working in the zone of them can have a significant impact not only on your career but life in general.
Here are a few questions you can ask yourself (and others) to get clear on your natural talents, top skills, and personal strengths.
- What type of tasks do you like to take on?
- Is there a theme around the type of tasks you tend to volunteer for?
- What skills do other people see as your top skills?
- When do people compliment your work?
I highly recommend you get a copy of the StrengthsFinder 2.0 book, which has a layout of 34 universal strength characters, describes each of them, and give you ideas for action.
